Charkha (Dhari, Gujarat)


Charkha is a village in Dhari Taluka of Amreli district on Saurashtra peninsula in Gujarat, western India. It was formerly minor princely state.

History

During it was a petty state in Sorath prant, which during the colonial British raj subordinate to the Lakhapadar thana. It was ruled by Kathi chieftains of Vala tribe.H.H namdar maharaj lakhuwala punjawala was chif of charkha state. his son namdar sree mangluwala lakhuwala lieve near dhari villege
The population according to the census of 1872 was 1613 and according to that of 1881 1414 souls. In 1901 it comprised Charkha and a second village, with a combined population of 1,519, yielding 27,000 Rupees state revenue, paying 541 Rupees tribute, to the Gaikwar Baroda State and Junagadh State.
