Chak Au
Chak Kwong Au is a Canadian politician. A member of the Conservative Party, he has represented Richmond Centre—Marpole in the House of Commons since the 2025 federal election. Au is a member of the Richmond City Council, initially elected in 2011.
Biography
He immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1988 where he served as an assistant professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and is a family therapist by profession.He unsuccessfully ran as a British Columbia New Democratic Party candidate in the 2017 British Columbia general election. Au was also a Metro Vancouver Regional District councillor in 2024.
After being elected federally in April 2025, Au decided in May 2025 to keep holding his municipal office, stating that he wanted to avoid the city having to pay to hold a byelection and pledged to donate his municipal salary to charity. The two positions, with a combined salary of $314,757, put him above the $309,700 made by federal cabinet ministers, the leader of the opposition, and the house speaker, and made him the second highest paid federal parliamentarian, only behind Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has a $419,600 salary.
