Caroline Torosis
Caroline Torosis is the previous mayor pro tempore and the mayor of Santa [Monica, California]. Since 2022, she has served in the city council, and has been acting mayor pro tem for the year prior to her being sworn in as mayor. Tororis was sworn in as mayor on December 9, 2025.
Background and career
Caroline Torosis was born in Santa Monica, California. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Washington University in St. Louis, with credits also from UCLA. She is also a policy director on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. She was sworn in as mayor by California State Assemblyman Rick Zbur.
Housing controversy
Tororis reportedly supported a plan to convert two high-value properties on Ocean Avenue into rent-controlled and accommodated housing for the local homeless population, including the severely psychiatrically disabled, and failing to disclose it to the community. According to Santa Monica Daily Press, Tororis was copied in numerous emails and involved in communications regarding the matter, while Tororis herself denies prior knowledge on the specifics, such as location.
