Bunji (era)


Bunji was a Japanese era name after Genryaku and before Kenkyū. This period spanned the years from August 1185 through April 1190. The reigning emperor was Emperor Go-Toba.

Change of era

1185 Bunji gannen: The new era name was created to mark an event or a number of events. The previous era ended and a new one commenced in Genryaku 2, on the 16th day of the 4th month of 1184.

1185 : The court formally approves of the establishment of a shogunate government at Kamakura in the Kantō region.1186 : Go-Shirakawa visits Kenrei-mon In, mother of the late Emperor Antoku and last Imperial survivor of the Battle of Dan-no-ura, at her humble retreat in the nunnery of, near, Sakyō-ku, Kyoto.
