British Butterflies

British Butterflies is a scholarly work, published in 1925 in ''Nature''. The main subjects of the publication include natural history, butterfly, imago, archaeology, pollinator decline, art history, genealogy, history, Lepidoptera genitalia, and DNA barcoding. The work may fitly be termed monumental; for it represents an immense amount of patient labour carried on through a long series of years, and accomplishes what has never been attempted before, namely, a complete life-history of every species of butterfly that has any claim to be considered British.
