Božejov


Božejov is a market town in Pelhřimov District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 600 inhabitants.

Božejov consists of two municipal parts :
  • Božejov
  • Nová Ves

Geography

Božejov is located about southwest of Pelhřimov and west of Jihlava. It lies in the Křemešník Highlands. The highest point is the Troják hill at above sea level. The upper course of the Želivka River flows along the northwestern municipal border. The area is rich in small fishponds and streams.

History

The first written mention of Božejov is from 1352.

Transport

The I/34 road passes through the municipal territory.

Sights

The main landmark of Božejov is the Church of Saint George. It is a large early Baroque building with a medieval core. The tower dates from 1642.
