Colección de Clásicos Uruguayos

The Colección de Clásicos Uruguayos, also Biblioteca Artigas is a state-published series founded in 1950 to honor José Gervasio Artigas on the centenary of his death, with publications beginning in 1953. It includes literary, historical, philosophical, and social works, each with an introductory study, and has shaped Uruguay’s national literary canon. Publication was irregular. The series is overseen by a commission composed of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the directors of the National Library, the National Historical Museum, and the National Archives of Uruguay.
