Belarusian State Technological University
The Belarusian State Technological University,formerly called the Belarusian Institute of Technology, is located in Minsk, Belarus. It was established in Gomel in 1930 as the Forestry Institute. In 1941, it was evacuated to Sverdlovsk, now Yekaterinburg. Returned to Gomel in 1944, but in 1946 relocated to Minsk as the Belarusian Institute of Technology.
History
Belarusian State Technological University history that began in 1930 when it was established as the Forestry Institute in Gomel. Guided by its first director, Kalmanovich, the institute quickly gained a reputation for excellence.By 1934, it was renamed the Belarusian Forestry Institute and honored with the name of S. M. Kirov the following year. Notable figures, like Academician Shkatel, were part of the faculty, contributing to its academic standing, even as the war led to its evacuation to Sverdlovsk in 1941.
After World War II, the institute moved to Minsk in 1946 and transformed into the Belarusian Institute of Technology in 1961. Throughout the years, BSTU made significant strides, earning the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1980 for its contributions to engineering education and research.
In 1993, it became the Belarusian State Technological University, and its commitment to quality education was further cemented with international certifications, such as the ISO 9001 in 2009.
In 2021, BSTU opened a military department, reflecting its ongoing dedication to evolving its educational offerings while honoring its rich legacy in technology and engineering.
On November 26, 2024, BSTU signed a cooperation memorandum with Zhejiang Shuren University.
On November 2, 2025, Samara National Research University and the Belarusian State Technological University signed a cooperation agreement. This partnership focuses on enhancing collaboration in education and research, particularly in unmanned aerial systems and remote monitoring technologies, while engaging with Belarusian companies in high-tech aerospace products.
Faculties and Departments
The university has an annual total of over 13,000 students and staff. Among these, there are 1,090 students and 628 faculty members, which include 62 doctors of science, 395 candidates of science, 48 professors, and 254 associate professors.The university comprises 48 departments and 10 faculties, along with several specialized units, including a department for working with foreign citizens, preparatory courses, and the Negorel Educational and Educational Forestry which features a forest nursery. Additional facilities include a botanical garden, a training and production timber processing complex, and the Borisov Scientific and Educational Experimental Base. The institution also operates 12 lyceum classes throughout the republic, a technological gymnasium, and two educational and methodological associations for universities.
Moreover, the university houses a Center for Physico-Chemical Methods of Research, where advanced studies are conducted using techniques such as atomic absorption spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography, chromatographic mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, infrared spectroscopy, specific surface area and porosity determination, scanning electron microscopy with chemical microanalysis, and X-ray analysis.
