Battle of Martorell (1114)
The Battle of Martorell of 1114 was fought between Ramon Berenguer III and the counties of Urgel and Cerdanya against the Almoravids.
Background
Once freed from the presence of El Cid in Valencia, the Almoravids were able to begin campaigns towards the counties of Barcelona and Urgel and the kingdom of Aragon. In 1114, coming from Valencia and commanded by Muhammad ibn Aisha with reinforcements from Muhammad ibn al-Hajj, governor of Zaragoza, they had entered through Lleida via Seo de Urgel and Segarra to the plain of Barcelona.Meanwhile, the Almoravids of the Balearic Islands, who landed at the mouth of the Besòs River to attack Barcelona, destroyed Sant Adrià de Besòs and Sant Andreu de Palomar.
