Asim Shah


Asim Shah is a Nepali politician, film director, and producer. He is a member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and served as a Member of Parliament in Nepal’s 2nd Federal Parliament, elected in the 2022 general election as a proportional representative from the Muslim category. He is also known for his work in Nepali cinema and television prior to entering politics.

Early life and education

Shah was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. He holds a Master's Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism.

Film and media career

Before entering politics, Shah worked in the Nepali film and television industry as a director and producer. He was the producer of the feature film Karkash and was the director of commercially successful film Dui Rupaiya. In addition to feature films, he has worked extensively in television commercials and media production.
His work in cinema has been noted for its contemporary themes and contribution to mainstream Nepali filmmaking.

Political career

Shah entered politics as a member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, a political party formed with a focus on governance reform and accountability. In the 2022 Nepalese general election, he was elected to the House of Representatives under the proportional representation system.
During his tenure as a Member of Parliament, Shah spoke on issues related to freedom of expression, youth participation, and governance. In March 2025, he raised concerns in Parliament regarding film censorship practices in Nepal, calling for greater artistic understanding within regulatory bodies.
In September 2025, Shah resigned from his parliamentary position, citing disagreement with the government's response to youth-led protests and expressing concerns over democratic accountability.

Personal life

Shah is the brother of Asif Shah, a Nepali film actor, producer, singer, and television personality.
