Asan Zhanyshov
Asan Kurbanovich Zhanyshov is a Kyrgyz Greco-Roman wrestler.He won the bronze medal at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb.
In September 2024, Zhanyshov won the gold medal at the U20 World Wrestling Championship in the 87 kg category.
Career
Zhanyshov first competed at the 2022 Asian U17 Championships, where he won the gold medal in the cadet category. In 2023, he earned bronze at the 2023 U20 World Wrestling Championships in Amman and captured the Asian U23 title in Bishkek at 82 kg.In 2024, he won gold at the Asian U23 Wrestling Championships in Amman and went on to claim the U20 world title the same year. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2024 U23 World Wrestling Championships in Tirana.
In 2025, Zhanyshov became Asian U23 champion for the third consecutive time in Vũng Tàu and later that year won the bronze medal at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb in the 87 kg category, marking his first senior world medal.
In September 2025, Zhanyshov represented Kyrgyzstan at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, where he won one of bronze medals in the men's Greco-Roman 87 kg category. He opened his campaign by defeating Turkey’s Hasan Berk Kılınç 6–5 in the round of 32 and went on to edge Azerbaijan’s Islam Abbasov 4–3 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, he lost 1–4 to Iran’s Alireza Mohmadi, who advanced to the final and pulled Zhanyshov back into the repechage. There, he beat Germany’s Hannes Wagner 3–1 to qualify for the bronze medal match, where he secured a 4–2 victory over Hungary’s Dávid Losonczi to claim his first senior world medal.
