Argentine cake
The Argentine cake, also known as Dolores cake or Argentine cake of Dolores, is a traditional cake from the city of Dolores, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is made of multiple layers of crepes, dulce de leche filling and topped with lemon icing.
History
Its origins date back in the late 19th century. The original recipe was conceived by two Uruguayan women, who were ironers and pastry makers, for the celebrations of May 25th. It was made with fruit jam, 25 layers of thin pancakes to represent the national day and topped with icing. The fruit jam would later be replaced with dulce de leche.The cake was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
