Angeliki Stogia
Angeliki Stogia is a Greek-British Labour Party politician. She has been a Manchester city councillor for Whalley Range since 2012.
She was the Labour Party candidate for the Chester South and Eddisbury constituency at the 2024 general election, where she came second with 32.1% of the votes. In January 2026, she was selected as Labour's candidate for the 2026 Gorton and Denton by-election.
Background
Originally from Arta, Greece, Stogia moved to the UK to study European Studies and Languages at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1995, and became a naturalised British citizen.Political career
First elected to Manchester City Council in 2012, Stogia is a councillor for Whalley Range in Manchester. She became Manchester Council's lead member for Transport and Environment. The decision to pedestrianise a stretch of Deansgate in May 2020 was challenged by Diamond Bus North West, since it led to diverting some of its routes. The dispute was settled before reaching a judicial review, with the Council paying £42,000 towards Diamond legal costs, as well as reopening the street.Stogia became an associate with Arup, a professional services company specialising in the built environment. She led the firm's stakeholder engagement and communications service in her region.
Stogia stood for the European Parliament as a Labour candidate for the North West England in the 2014 European elections, but was not elected.
In April 2024, she was selected as the Labour Party candidate for the Chester South and Eddisbury constituency at the 2024 general election. She came second with 32.1% of the votes.
Stogia was selected as Labour's candidate for the 2026 Gorton and Denton by-election, after Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham was refused permission to stand as a candidate. During the launch event of her campaign, Stogia told a crowd of Labour activists that she is a "proud Mancunian woman" and that "Manchester is a city united, we are rejecting division". She also added "I’m standing to be your member of parliament to unite our community and stand up to the divisive politics of Reform.” Despite being blocked from standing, Andy Burnham went on to back Stogia saying she would do a "a great job" and told her "I will be there for you whenever you need me."
