Alireza Motevaseli


Alireza Motevaseli is an Iranian musician.
He works as a conductor, composer, bassoonist, and pianist.

Early life

He was born in Tehran, Iran. He earned a Master of Arts in Music from the Art University of Tehran, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Orchestral Conducting. He is also a composer, bassoonist, and pianist.
He began studying music in 2002 by learning bassoon at the Television & Radio of the Islamic Republic of Iran Music School. He studied bassoon performance under notable instructors such as Terry B. Ewell, Alireza Sheibani, and Taghi Zarrabi.
He has been the music director and chief conductor of the Caspian Orchestra since 2022.
Since 2019, he has collaborated as a conductor with several distinguished Iranian orchestras, including the Roudaki Foundation, the Youth Orchestra, Raga, and the Radman Orchestra.
Since 2025, he has appeared as a guest conductor with a number of distinguished orchestras, such as the Rasaneh Honar Orchestra.

Career

After graduating from music school, he worked with some of the most well-known orchestras in Iran, including the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, Iran National Orchestra, and IRIB Symphony Orchestra.
As a bassoon soloist with Maestro Shahrdad Rohani and the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, he performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante K. 297b at Vahdat Hall.
In late 2016, Motevaseli began translating a series of bassoon education into Persian.

He served as principal bassoonist with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, performing under conductors such as Shahrdad Rouhani, Riccardo Muti, Alexander Rahbari, Alexander Rudin, Mark Stevenson, Nasir Heidarian, Nader Mashayekhi, Nader MortezaPour, Orwell Erdinç, and Domina Jurana. He also collaborated with the Mediant Trio led by Alvin Avanessian, as well as with other orchestra, including:
IRIB Symphony Orchestra, led by the late Mohammad Biglari Pour.
The Parisian orchestra led by Aidin men.
Tehran Chamber Orchestra, led by Nader Mashayekhi.
Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Mohammad Hossein Hamidi.
Rudaki Orchestra, led by Nader Abbassi and Arash Amini.
Iran Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus under Alireza Shafaghi Nezhad.

Composer

Motevaseli won First Prize at the "Renaissance" Gyumri International Music Festival 2017, awarded by the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, Municipality of Yerevan, and the jury from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan.
Following a decision by the Seattle Symphony to support citizens of seven countries affected by travel bans, Motevaseli was selected as the youngest Iranian composer to participate in a concert held for this cause. The concert opened with his composition Fantasia for Santoor and Accordion.
His Fantasia has been acknowledged and performed by Seattle Symphony to celebrate Asia Composition competition on January 28th, 2016. Hewon first prize for Subjective Music Composition at the Fajr International Music festival.
For the second time, he won the Grand Prize at the 39th edition of The Fajr International Music Festival for Composition, held on Feb 17th, 2024.
