Adolpho Veloso


Adolpho Veloso is a Brazilian cinematographer. He is known for his work on Train Dreams, for which he became the first Brazilian nominated for the BAFTA and the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
For the film, he won the Critics Choice Award and received a nomination from the American Society of Cinematographers.

Early life

Veloso was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and developed an interest in filmmaking from a young age. He studied film at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado.
Since 2025, he resides in Portugal.

Style

His work has been described as minimalist and observational, reflecting influences from American cinematographers like Gordon Willis.
