February 13: The Laurel & Hardy short film Flying Elephants is released. It has a short animated sequence with a flying elephant, animated by Walter Lantz.September
September 1: Paul Terry's Farmer Alfalfa cartoon Dinner Time is an early attempt to synchronize animation with sound.November
November 18: Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie is released, one of the first cartoons with a synchronized soundtrack. It marks the debuts of Mickey, and Minnie Mouse. It also launches the long-running film series Mickey Mouse. November 18 will later be officially declared as the characters' birthday.Films released
