History

The station was opened by Japanese Government Railways on 1 June 1914. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways, the successor of JGR, on 1 April 1987, JR Kyushu took over control of the station.

In fiscal 2020, the station was used by an average of 349 passengers daily, and it ranked 254th among the busiest stations of JR Kyushu.
