The station was opened on 20 June 1945. It was among a string of three intermediate stations which were set up when the then Yosan Mainline was extended westwards from to link up with track of the then Uwajima Line at. This was the final phase of the extension of the Yosan Mainline which connected with. At that time, the station was operated by Japanese Government Railways, later becoming Japanese National Railways. With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, control of the station passed to JR Shikoku.
