History

NAVSUP BSC began as the U.S. Navy's Fleet Material Support Office on Jan. 15, 1962 under the command of Capt. I. F. Haddock. The command's original mission was to manage Navy-owned retail stocks of medical, general, and industrial materials bought and controlled by the newly established Defense Supply Agency. FMSO also coordinated efforts of inventory control points in the preparation of allowance and load lists for all supply support materials aboard ship and at overseas bases. Over time, the mission of command has evolved, and is now focused on information technology.
