Al Zarqan is a Sunni Muslim tribe, said to belong to the family of Muhammad.
Al-Zarqan Tribe
Al-Zarqan is an Arab Qurashi Hashemite tribe that traces its lineage to the family of the Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah. They are present in most parts of the Arab world, and they have had a recognized role in many Arab revolutions against colonialism and foreign occupation in both the eastern and western Arab regions.
A person affiliated with the tribe is called "Zurqani", and the plural is "Zarqan."
Origin of the Al-Zarqan Tribe
The Al-Zarqan tribe traces its roots to the Arabian Peninsula, specifically from the Najd region. The tribe has extensions into Hejaz, Yemen, Iraq, and the Levantine desert.
The Zarqan of Saudi Arabia and some Zarqan in Iraq originate from the Qahtani tribes, who migrated from Yemen following the collapse of the Ma’rib Dam in 452 CE.
There are also Adnanite Zarqan, including those in Ahvaz, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, and Libya.
Origin of the Name
The name "Al-Zarqan" is attributed to their ancestor Musa Al-Azraq, who had blue eyes and would apply black kohl to them.
They trace back to a common ancestor named Hamdan, who had five sons: Eid, Ushbah, Arid, Sammaq, and Ma‘mar.
Some members of the tribe also claim the name "Zarqan" comes from the Zarqan bird, a bird of prey that resembles a hawk or goshawk.
Others say the name refers to the "blue tips of spears" due to their shimmering blue appearance, with the tribe being named in resemblance to them.

If this is accurate, they are among the Arab giants, the Banu Amaliq. Amaliq descended from Aram ibn Sam ibn Noah. They were a great nation famed for their height and stature. Al-Tabari says they spread across regions: some settled in the Levant, some were kings of Iraq, others giants of the Levant and Pharaohs of Egypt.
There are also Adnanite Zarqan, such as the Zarqan of Libya. A weak narration linked Zarqan directly to Rabiah, but it was refuted and deemed politically motivated due to tribal and political dynamics in Ahvaz, Iraq, and Arabia over the past five centuries.
The Zarqan are considered Ashraf by the Circle of Ashraf in Libya, the Supreme Genealogy Authority in Iraq, the tribal genealogists in Ahvaz, Yemen, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. The Libyan Zarqan believe they descend from Al-Hasan ibn Ali.
They lived in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, southern Tunisia, Jordan and Ahvaz.
